She became involved in her profession through her recognition as a classroom teacher that many students struggled with reading which prompted her to focus more on reading to help them excel.
Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Naas traveled with a group of reading educational professionals to the People's Republic of China as part of the Citizen Ambassador Program of People to People International through the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1997. She has received grants for educational research including the Enrichment Fellowship grant from the Council for Basic Education for a team study project on gender issues in 1993. She published an article titled 'Arts and the Language Arts: Another Path Toward Literacy' in the Greater Washington Reading Council Journal, Vol. 18 in the 1993 to 1994 publication. She presented at the International Reading Association's Southeastern Regional Conference and at the Institute of Art and Language Arts in 1992 and 1998. She also presented at the Virginia State Reading Association in 1999, 1992, 1991 and 1986. She participated in a program at the Institute of the Arts of George Mason University in 1995. Ms. Naas has a grandchild named Tanner.
