The highlight of her career is the day she did a preoperative nursing assessment on a patient and her gut feeling told her to call the surgeon to request an additional lab test. He ordered them and the lab results indicated that the patient had an undiagnosed thyroid problem. The surgeon called her and thanked her for saving the patient’s life because surgery and anesthesia would have not been safe for her at that time.
