Extended Bio Profile:
Dr. Carrow-Woolfolk has written a number of peer-reviewed articles and books on reading and language, multilingualism and the multicultural speech and language issues of Spanish and English speakers. She is the author of a book entitled ‘Learning to Read,' which helps parents prepare children for early reading in school. She has served as a chief of the speech pathology service at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Texas Children's Hospital and The Methodist Hospital in Houston. In addition, she has served on the faculty as head of communication of disorder programs at Our Lady of the Lake University, the University of Texas and Baylor College of Medicine after obtaining her doctoral degree from Northwestern University at Evanston in Illinois. Dr. Carrow-Woolfolk left the medical setting to head the speech pathology program at The University of Texas at Austin in 1972. She is the founder of the Harry Jersig Center and namesake for an academic chair at Our Lady of the Lake University. She also established the speech pathology clinics at Methodist and Texas Children's Hospitals and received numerous honors from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Her book, ‘Pioneers, Patriots, and Planters,' is a compilation of her husband's family history.
