Throughout the duration of your career, what was the one highlight that stood out the most?:
Once I was hired for clinical research I had to self learn the field. I read a book, started to network and found the studies that we would need to become the research center we are now. I have taken the research department here from just myself part-time 3 days a week to a full time position with 9 people in the department and a doctor to conduct the studies. We now can conduct 20 clinical trials at a time.

Hard work, initiative and the desire to leaarn more about clinical research and what it is all about.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
I had wanted to be a nurse since the 5th grade. After nursing school I went into the operating room. Due to my husband's job I relocated to North Carolina and started a family. We had a son with cerebral palsy who took time, love and a lot of patience to care for. We relocated again to PA and I went back to hospital work: pediatrics, maternity, labor delivery & nursery after our son's death and our daughters' birth. I was offered a position to learn clinical reserarch for a private multi specialty group practice and took the challenge.

Ms. Benton has two daughters; one is a nurse, and the other is a teacher. Husband, Rod, is an insurance agent and is self employed. Mother is a publisher, Brothers: Jonathan McPhee, musician/conductor; Keith McPhee, musical director Jimmy Fallon show and manager for the Roots.
Position Responsibilities and Duties:
Overseeing five coordinators for clinical research; Also on staff : patient recruiter, plebotomist; regulatory specialist. Managing budgets, contracts, and correspondences with research monitors, sponsors and contract research organizations.
Education Certifications:
ACRP Certified Clinical Research Coordinator since 2004.

Hopefully still working here managing the great staff I have to work with.
