His old mentor, Larry Shoup, Pharmacist at Henry Ford Hospital, who was his mentor and the person he strives to be like. Dr. Shoup was instrumental in Dr. Owen's pursuit of pharmacy between 1980 and 1988.

He attributes his success to his knowledge base and industry experience.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
He became involved in his profession in 1969, when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was put in the hospital corpsman program. He was one of three chosen for the pharmacy program, and this eventually began his career, which he also pursued in the civilian sector.
Extended Bio Profile:
Dr. Owen was one of 200 to complete the leadership program at the Pharmacy Leadership Institute at Boston University. Also, he was directly involved in opening and staffing the second critical care pharmacy at Henry Ford Hospital in 1983. While in the US Navy, Dr. Owen ran a dispensary in North Carolina and did the ordering for pharmacy at Camp Lejeune as well as compounding. He did this from (1969-1973).

Overseeing the clinical coverage and order entry of the North Campus Pharmacy during the midnight shift; Handling formulary work

Published Journal Author on Research on the Topic of Aminoglycosides Dosing, Hospital Pharmacy Journal (1987)
