Extended Bio Profile:
I purchased my first bird in 1957 with my allowance. Sambo was a blue parakeet. He was the normal parakeet who didn't want to be handled but was a joy to watch and listen to. I was devestated when Sambo died a few years later. I knew I couldn't replace him. I went many years without a "flying friend" but my love for them never went away. In 1978 while working in a Pet Store in Toledo, Ohio, a 6 month old Blue & Gold Macaw stole my heart. I named him "Dizzy" and he lived up to his name. I couldn't buy him at the time and he was sold to someone else. After 3 years I discovered Dizzy was sold by that person to another pet store. Believe me when I say that birds don't forget! He knew me right away. Needless to say Dizzy became part of my family and from that point on I was hooked on birds. He was quite a handful compared to that parakeet! We went through many things together however Dizzy held a passion for my Father. With the passsing of my Father in 2000 Dizzy wasn't the same towards me. I could no longer handle him. However, my close friend could. Dizzy resides with her in Toledo, Ohio and is doing great.
I was working at Treasured Parrots in Mentor, Ohio and enjoyed being around and working with all types of birds on a daily basis. When the store closed in 2007, I just couldn't give up this passion so with the help and encouragement from my husband, Steve, I opened "Flying Friends".
I now have a male Double Yellow Amazon, male Green Quaker, female Red Bellied, male Senegal, female Rose Breasted Cockatoo and a female Congo African Grey and hope to have them for many years to come. They are all very good talkers and quite entertaining.
