Although Ms. Nebel does not like to blow her own horn, the unique aspect of her career is that she has had the experience of being a trailblazer. She was among the first class of women rabbis to be admitted to the Jewish Theological Seminary of Conservative Judaism. There were preconceptions, chauvinism and stereotypes to confront and dismantle all along the way. Ms. Nebel notes that it does not take long for people to stop seeing her as a 'woman' rabbi, but rather as a rabbi who happens to be a woman, which she prefers.
What has been the most outstanding thing you have done thus far in your career?:
Ms. Nebel's greatest career achievement has been balancing motherhood with being a successful rabbinate. Toward the end of her time in New London, CT as an education and youth director, her daughter was born. They raised their daughter in Connecticut until she was 3. However, she has found the perfect match for her needs in Temple Beth Chai.
