She attributes her success to learning new techniques and keeping abreast of industry changes by reading Florists' Review and attending seminars. She also credits her drive, understanding of her demographics, and involvement in the community.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession because she has always loved flowers and gardening. After working in a machine shop in the defense industry and having her job outsourced, she needed to plan her next move. Since she has always been a lover of the outdoors, she decided to go back to school to earn a degree in landscape design and open her own business.
Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Phelps has built a successful design, installation and maintenance landscape business. In 2001, she purchased an old train station, expanding her company to include a nursery, gift shop and florist shop. She is highly creative and able to think outside of the box, and makes sure to add personal touches to the work she does for each client. Ms. Phelps also works with The Hancock Community Education Foundation. Each year she is involved with the organization's Easter egg project, which is arranged for more than 100 children.

Where Will You Be In 5 Years:
In five years, Ms. Phelps intends to continue to grow the business and begin mentoring. She would like to give speeches on landscape and floral design to teach those interested in learning more about the field. She would also like to teach people about borrowing money to start businesses.
