What do you feel separates you from the rest of the professionals in your industry?:
Ms. Harris’ strong work ethic, self-motivation, independence and loyalty separate her from her peers. Diversity is met with a challenge, not defeat. She works well in a group and usually ends up being the leader, but prefers to work alone. She is very thorough and focused when performing tasks. Organization is key. Everything must be in place and systematized. As a single parent with two children, one of whom is handicapped, she had to juggle work and college. She worked full time and went to college at night. She is a breed apart because situations are attacked head on. Solutions are sought with a positive outcome.
What has been the most outstanding thing you have done thus far in your career?:
Ms. Harris’ ability to overcome diversity and negative people has been her greatest career achievement. She will never allow such situations or persons to define who she is. They only inspire her to become a better person and to concentrate her efforts on loftier goals. She has had obstacles placed for her to fail time and again, but has always overcome them. She always views her glass as half full because there is always room for improvement, advancement and an opportunity to make it happen.
Expanded Biography:
Ms. Harris has 35 years of operating room nursing experience in gynecology, orthopedics and vascular surgery, and seven years of experience as a legal nurse consultant. The pivotal point for her was the day she attended a legal nurses' workshop. It was then that she knew working independently was her forte. She has always been a high achiever and sought excellence in every endeavor, but the opportunity to work well, make her own decisions and have her own space in which to execute those decisions was the best feeling she ever had. She likes that she is able to continue to be a patient advocate by being involved in nursing and law. Her favorite expression is "Never dare to soar."
Throughout the duration of your career, what was the one highlight that stood out the most?:
The highlight of Ms. Harris's career was being named Nurse Excellence by her peers.

What Does He/She Attribute Success To:
She attributes her success to always pursuing new goals and to being a lifelong learner in all aspects of nursing.
Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Harris has always considered nursing to be very special. She has embraced it for more than 40 years. Her background is in operating room nursing, specializing in urology, gynecology, vascular and orthopedic surgery. Ms. Harris initially worked as a licensed representative for long-term care insurance and then moved into insurance investigation. She was a nurse investigator who assessed and investigated long-term care clients’ eligibility to collect coverage following an illness or injury that became chronic or prolonged over an extended period. Ms. Harris has also worked as a school nurse and preceptor for new school nurses. She is currently teaching nursing as a professor in the School of Nursing at Monroe College in New York.

Recently, Ms. Harris was part of the Women's Empowerment program at Monroe College, which involved mentoring 250 high school female students in the community.
