Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Zeng was born on October 19, 1966, in Sichuan, China. She suffered from hepatitis C, but after practicing Falun Gong, the disease subsided. In her book, "Witnessing History: One Chinese Woman's Fight for Freedom and Falun Gong,”Published in Australia, Allen & Unwin Publishers and New York, Soho Press Publishers. She discusses the horrors occurring in the world, placing a special focus on China. She likens the crimes against humanity in China to the Holocaust, which shocked the world 60 years ago. She notes that her story may sound unbelievable to people who have not been involved in her plight, but that she is a true survivor. In 2000, she was sent to a female labor camp. At the time, police made it clear that the purpose of the camp was to “reform” Falun Gong followers and force them to give up their beliefs. At the camp, residents were not allowed to sleep for as long as 15 days and 15 nights at a time, sometimes even for an entire month. They were shocked with electric batons, beaten, sexually abused, and forced to work in appalling conditions for 16 to 20 hours each day. Furthermore, they were under severe and endless mental pressures to betray their beliefs, which were based on ideals of truth, compassion and tolerance. Ms. Zeng witnessed people being driven into insanity and deprived of basic human rights: free will, dignity and self-awareness. After being reformed, those at the camp were reduced to nothing more than living corpses. Falun Gong is a spiritual discipline that was first introduced to China in 1992 by its founder, Li Hongzhi, through public lectures. It combines practices of meditation and slow-moving qigong exercises with moral philosophy. Falun Gong places a heavy emphasis on morality and the cultivation of virtue in its central tenets of truthfulness, compassion and forbearance. It is identified as a qigong practice of the Buddhist school, and it incorporate elements drawn from Taoist traditions.
In 2012, a 52-minute documentary titled "Free China: The Courage to Believe" will be released, featuring Ms. Zeng's harrowing story along with Dr. Charles Lee, a Chinese American businessman who was also sent to labor camp and tortured for his belief in Falun Gong.
