What do you feel separates you from the rest of the professionals in your industry?:
Ms. Naughton has been told that drive is the single most important trait for success, but she believes it is purpose. Her purpose is to enable and support the success of others. Those who are selfish would see this as a thankless and foolish effort, but those with purpose know there is no greater reward.
What has been the most outstanding thing you have done thus far in your career?:
Ms. Naughton's greatest achievement has been contributing to the education of students from enrollment to graduation, seeing them grow and mature, learn, explore and discover things they didn't know they didn't know.
Expanded Biography:
Ms. Naughton has learned to live by the lesson of 'The Star Thrower,' an adaptation from an essay by Loren Eiseley. In the story, a man spends his time throwing starfish back into the ocean after the tide goes out stranding them on the shore. A passerby sees him and tells him that he will never save all of them. The man answers with, 'But I made a difference for that one.' Ms. Naughton was also inspired by a quote by Mahatma Gandhi that states, 'You must be the change you wish to see in the world.' True change can begin with one action, one thought and one person. She believes that as an educator, it is her responsibility to not only bring about change, progress and innovation, but to also create a world in which those she educates can see the same opportunity.
Throughout the duration of your career, what was the one highlight that stood out the most?:
The highlights of her career were starting new programs at Briarcliffe College and having her peers approach her for advice at age 24.
