The most gratifying aspect of her career is that she has an honest approach to all situations that has allowed her perceptivity of alternatives to become keener. As a social entrepreneur, dealing with people has heightened her ability to be thoughtful and not exclude those who otherwise maybe considered inconsequential. In addition, her fun-loving attitude has allowed her to make light of difficult tasks, which places people at ease and ready to participate.

What Does He/She Attribute Success To:
She attributes her success to her consistency and passion, and ability to overcome challenges. As a child of the civil rights era, she learned how to deflect the rage from the alienation, degradation and discrimination she saw and turn those negatives into a family coded determination to ensure self-respect through the knowledge of her history instilled by her parents. Their life stories have become fodder for her unrelenting desire to attain success.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession because she is a retired school teacher and adjunct professor at Empire State College. She was always involved in education, and throughout the 30 years, most of her students were under-served. She desired to have a service-focused career, as it has helped her to realize that if mankind would put aside differences, the ability to live admirably could be attainable.

Ms. Truitt has been an educator for the past 30 years, specializing in English at an urban high school. She was an adjunct instructor at SUNY, Empire State College. She is the founder and executive director of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, TL3C an organization geared. She is working with students who have not been successful due to socioeconomic reasons.

To the younger generation of women entering the workforce, Dr. Truitt says to be assertive in a positive manner, uphold your standards and stay focused on the prize and success will follow. Her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, has made a difference for her life professionally in that it showed Dr. Truitt the importance of public service, upholding principles and womanhood.
