She attributes her success to good positions and mentors and taking advantage of good opportunities as they presented themselves.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession when she started working in a hospital at age 16 to earn money for college and really liked the field. She eventually started her own business because she really wanted to help younger people, and young women in particular, to navigate career paths and organizations.
Extended Bio Profile:
Dr. Howell was a hospital chief executive officer for 27 years at Cayuga Medical Center, Ithaca, N.Y. She taught at the graduate school level as an adjunct professor in health care administration at both Cornell University and New York University. She has three grown daughters in Leesburg Va.; Houston, Texas; and Ann Arbor, Mich. She spends a lot of time in the New York City metro area. She has published two chapters in the book "Stepping Stones for Success" in 2010. She is currently working on her first book, which will be on leadership and spiritually-based topics. She has published journal articles, and speaks and presents often on various topics, including the seven leadership truths.
