She became involved in her profession because she fell in love with western North Carolina as a child; her family visited it often. More than 50 years ago, her family had bought land in Franklin from Jim Berry. The land was never developed, but it was passed on to Ms. Hopp.

In five years, Ms. Hopp hopes to have one of the best inns in the country. She also plans to build on her land and retire to a mountain retreat.
