She attributes her success to persistence and dedication.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession because of her exposure to the Civil Rights Movement, she wanted to carry on a legacy for education to transition and transform lives of African Americans. She also had a desire to work with young people, mentor and give insight on her experiences with education. She started her career working with Antioch University.
Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Brower has more than 30 years of experience in institution system administration, and she has worked in her current position since May 2011. Before joining Shaw University, she was Howard University’s director of development for the college of pharmacy, nursing and allied health sciences. She helped the school become involved with fundraising, and in five years, its donations increased from $200,000 to more than $4 million. She helped raise $20 million in support of the university’s mission and increased scholarships available for African American students studying health care. Ms. Brower has also served as the university’s development associate for planned giving, interim assistant for the dean of development, and assistance director of development and planned giving for the college of medicine. Furthermore, Ms. Brower has held the position of director of development for the Howard University Hospital. Ms. Brower was born in Dayton, Ohio, and has lived in Los Angeles and the Washington, D.C., area. She is now a resident of Raleigh, N.C., where she attends the First Baptist Church. She is enjoying becoming familiar with her new community and neighbors.

Managing and supervising a staff of eight; Conducting daily staff meeting with development officers and weekly team meetings one time per week; Overseeing alumni, corporate and foundation relations, global initiatives, gift processing and management, special events and strategic communication; Working with the United Negro College Council and WSHA FM radio station; Managing public and private funding in the form of grants and gifts; Serving on the executive cabinet; Reporting to the president of the university to identify areas of critical need; Ensuring the availability of scholarships; Raising funds for daily operations
