Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession because she started as a preschool teacher. She enjoyed helping people while working at the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and it progressed from there.
Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Gibbs' company began work on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2005 as a direct response to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in August of that year. In 2007, Hands On Network merged with the Points of Light Foundation, creating this country's largest volunteer engagement organization, known as POLHON. Hands on Gulf Coast became an affiliate of POLHON while forming its own organization solely focused on Mississippi.
Her favorite quote is "Reality is relative to your prospective on the current situation." She makes a daily effort to lead by example, follow her heart, embrace her faith, and in the end, leave a legacy that will make her family proud of her strengths and weaknesses.
Hands On Gulf Coast, an independent affiliate integrally and permanently a part of Mississippi, has grown and expanded to address not only disaster recovery, but other needs in their communities. It started in 2010 to do business as Hands On Mississippi to encompass their true reach of service and focus.
Position Responsibilities and Duties:
Handling telephone calls and e-mails to volunteer groups and organizations that need volunteers; Meeting with staff and pools of volunteers; Attending city council meetings; Working with restitution groups; Recruiting for cold weather shelters
