The highlights of his career were becoming a professor at the University of Alberta, the Robert H. Quenon endowed chairman at the University of Missouri in Rolla, and helping 20 students to graduate in the past 10 years.

He became involved in his profession because he was inspired by his mine manager.
Extended Bio Profile:
Dr. Frimpong is an adjunct professor at the University of Alberta. He has 15 years of experience in teaching, 15 years in consulting, and four years in surface and underground mining and offshore crude oil production operations. He has worked as an assistant professor in the Technical University of Nova Scotia, postdoctoral fellow in the University of Alberta, research associate in the University of Zimbabwe and as a mining engineer in Ashanti Goldfields Company, Ghana National Manganese Corporation, State Gold mining Corporation and Agri-Petco of Ghana. He has taught several undergraduate and graduate courses in mining and petroleum engineering and has graduated several students for industry and academia. His current research areas include surface mining, machine-formation interactions, mining machine health and longevity, oil sands extraction, petroleum production engineering, bulk materials handling, advanced stochastic modeling and risks and safety engineering. He has led major research initiatives in these areas with $5 million funding from U.S., Canadian and Alberta funding programs, as well as national and international mining and energy industries. The results of his research initiatives include more than 200 journals and conference publications, 50 technical reports and dissertations and more than 100 technical presentations to various academic, government and industry audiences. He has given more than 30 short courses for Canadian and international companies. He also consults in his areas of expertise for industries around the world.
