Mrs. Mahurin's tenure was the longest ever in the history of The Kansas City Public Library. She is active in her community and has strong links with many U.S. Air Force societies and affiliations due to her husband, Lt. Col. Thomas F. Mahurin's 41-year spanning Air Force career. She and her husband were grand marshals the St. Patrick's celebration in 2000. She is expecting to hear about an honor she will be receiving from the Irish Fest. She was recognized by George W. Bush as the oldest woman to have worked in the state of Missouri.
