What do you feel separates you from the rest of the professionals in your industry?:
Rev. Nolin believes that her experiences separate her from other professionals in her career. As a woman ordained 60 years ago, she was ahead of most others. As Miss Barabra Beck, The United Brethren Church opened the pulpit to her nine years before the Methodists did this in 1958. Soon, The Evangelical United Brethren joined with the Methodist Church, becoming the United Methodist Church. However, by this time, Miss Beck has become Mrs. Nolin and she had become a Presbyterian minister's wife. In those years it was most appropriate for her to step back, honoring her husband. Ten years were devoted to birthing and raising their four children. In another ten years, a divorce took place and Rev. Nolin continued her classroom teaching, but also responded to the need of the First Baptist Church of Terre Haute, IN for a minister of music. After a dozen years there, she explored the possibility of returning to her first profession, ministry. In 1986 the Findlay (OH) District Superintendent Rev. Grayson Atha heard her story, but could hardly believe it. Looking up the 1949 minutes of the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Jesus Christ, he found it there. She was welcomed and prepared into the ministry again. Rev. Nolin says, 'How good to be a United Methodist, but I cannot forget the years behind me; I am indeed a Methobapterian!' In a duo career in both church and school, she has honored the separation of church and state. Prayer belongs at home and at church. 'Researching students takes all the Christian attributes we can use, but no preaching,' she says
What has been the most outstanding thing you have done thus far in your career?:
Although she has has great opportunities for leadership in both school and church, it is the ten years she took out from both careers to raise her four children that has been her greatest challenge and greatest achievement. Her heart breaks for families that must place their children in day care. She believes that nothing can replace the one-on-one attention that children need in those early years when the foundation is laid. Educators worry about ninth-grade students who are not going to make it through high school. Rev. Nolin believes that this is far too late to be concerned. In Denmark, mothers are granted two years to be at home with each child. Capitalism, however, doesn't seem to allow that.

Rev. Nolin has a passion for education which starts where the child is. Her years in the classroom combined music with movement and language in a singing game. She has not taught by testing methods and she believes we will return to John Dewey's philosophy of learning by doing.
