Mrs. Norlander is in the business of shaping lives, contributing to her community and serving people. As the first woman to hold the position of county clerk and register of deeds in the 175-year history of Calhoun County, Mich., few can match her determination, drive and passionate leadership. Her political career began in 1984, when she was elected as the commissioner for Calhoun County, representing the fifth district. After her re-election in 1986, Mrs. Norlander pursued a higher goal, becoming the first republican to hold the dual position of Calhoun County Clerk and register of deeds. Mrs. Norlander is also the clerk to the circuit court, and is a secretary to the gun board. Her office’s motto is, ‘We keep the records of your life.’
Mrs. Norlander has worked to create effective leadership, characterized by organization and creativity. Her vision to incorporate young people into local and state government has become a reality after combining her educational and political backgrounds. She instituted programs to educate and inform students about the political process including conducting mock elections in Calhoun County's 12 high schools using optical scan machines.
She is married to attorney and former Calhoun County prosecutor, Jim. They are the parents of Adam and Jane, and their children-in-law, Christa and Jonathan. They are the grandparents of Marin, Quinn and Evan. In addition, Mrs. Norlander is the proud grandparent of grand-dog, Maggie.
