Extended Bio Profile:
Mayor Thurby greatly admired John F. Kennedy while growing up. He believes that Kennedy possessed wisdom beyond his years. He retired as a heavy equipment operator, then spent over 14 years with the police department before becoming the mayor of the city of Corydon. He is most proud of his children and the community in which he lives. He helped established its' local volunteer fire station years ago. Today, his sights are set on making the community in which he lives as good as it can be. He successfully cleaned up the community park, and put in lighting, seating, shelters, and a new walking trail. The community is currently awaiting the construction of a new fire station, for which it has received a 500,000 dollar grant to build. The community is also trying to attract new businesses, and awaits a dollar store that will be coming to Corydon this summer. Mayor Thurby always enjoys a challenge, and endeavors to make ‘it’ better, no matter what ‘it’ may be. Before his term as mayor ends, he would like to see the fire station and dollar store completed, as well as a town restaurant. The only additional act that he truly hopes to accomplish is establishing a senior citizen center, which is something that the town really needs.
