He became involved in his profession because he fell in love with medicine, specifically surgery.
Extended Bio Profile:
Dr. Patti has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of esophageal conditions. Minimally invasive surgery is performed through very small incisions with the use of specialized instruments and miniature cameras. This approach has many benefits for patients, including a quicker recovery, shorter hospital stay and minimal scarring. Dr. Patti has published more than 140 journal articles and book chapters on esophageal surgery and minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Laparoendoscopic & Advanced Surgical Techniques, Hepatogastroenterology, the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery and the World Journal of Surgery. Dr. Patti has given more than 150 presentations at universities and scientific meetings throughout the world. In addition, he has served as a visiting professor at several prominent universities in Italy, Canada, China and the United States. He currently works within the university’s Center for Advanced Medicine and the University of Chicago Medical Center. Dr. Patti completed research at the University of California for three years, between 1983 and 1986.
