He attributes his success to his curious mind and belief that there are no problems, only solutions waiting to be found. He has been through 73 countries, and has picked up little things around the world and put them together for local solutions. He became involved in his profession after he started in the shipping industry in 1987; he worked in Southeast Asia and Europe, and began working in the U.S. in 1990, running terminals as an operating manager

Mr. Okland is from a small farming town on the west coast of Norway, where the oldest son is expected to take over the farm or go out to sea to work. Being that he was the oldest and his middle brother was more interested in farming, he went to sea. Mr. Okland accepts resistance to change which is a major factor in a person's brain. He likes to build people up and work with them, and always makes himself available for support or questions. He is an instructor for first-time horseback riders and motorcyclists.
