Life has not ended for you
Life flows on. Declare to yourself
I accept the reality of this situation,
But not its permanence.’ - Eric Butterworth
‘One thing that comes out in myths is that at the bottom on the abyss comes the voice of salvation. The black moment is the moment when the real message of transformation is going to come. At the darkest moment comes the light.’ - Joseph Campbell
‘Freedom is what you do with what has been done to you.’ - Jean-Paul Sartre
‘Secrecy is the necessity of keeping something to oneself, while privacy is the choice of keeping something to oneself.' - Quoted by John Bradshaw
‘Recovery will not open the Gates of Heaven to let you in, but it will open the Gates of Hell to let you out.’
‘Everything can be taken from a man but one thing; the last of human freedoms- to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.’ - Viktor E. Frankl
‘Although there are other quotes and words of wisdom that have influenced me, I will end with one that my Father used to read to me often. It is called ‘Compensation’’ - by Edgar Guest.
I’d like to think when life is done
That I had filled a needed post,
That here and then I’d paid my fare
With more than idle talk and boast
That I had taken gifts divine,
The breath of life and manhood fine,
And tried to use them now and then
In service for my fellow men.
I’d hate to think when life is through
That I had lived my round of years
A useless kind, that leaves behind
No record in the vale of tears;
That I had wasted all my days
By treading only selfish ways
And that this world would have been the same
If it had never known my name.
I’d like to think that here and there,
When I am gone, there shall remain
A happier spot that might have not
Existed had I toiled for gain.
That someone’s cherry voice and smile
Shall prove that I had been worthwhile;
That I had paid with something fine
My debt to God and life divine.’
