She became involved in her profession after going to Veterinary school and being diagnosed with allergies and asthma. She could no longer pursue that career path, so she went to school for medical secretary. Her first job was with an ophthalmology practice, which she enjoys and continues to work in today.

Ms. Hartman initially went to school to become a veterinarian, but developed asthma and allergies toward animals. She took a nine-month course to become a medical secretary, and after attaining a job in an ophthalmologist office, she began working with patients and doctors.
