The highlight of her career occurred during a travel assignment in Alaska. She and a friend were traveling the Elliott Highway on July 4th when they encountered what appeared to be garbage in the road. Upon further inspection her friend noted a moose lying in the road. She then noted a man also lying in the middle of the road. When she first assessed him he was lifeless. With multiple attempts she was able to revive him, but could only keep his airway open by repeated stimuli. That evening she called the hospital to see if he survived, only to find out he was not at their facility. She thought him to have passed. Upon returning to work in Anchorage a friend she was having lunch with was telling her this story. Colleen smiled at her friend and explained she was the one that found and saved this man. The gentleman had multiple injuries and spent several weeks in the ICU, followed by three months in the rehab unit. She is still in contact with him, after all, she’s “His Nurse.”
