He became involved in his profession because his interest in media and entertainment was sparked when his father bought him a film developing kit.

Mr. Schiebeck was featured in a book titled 'Picture This' published by Gary Haynes in 2007. He mainly worked in Latin America and South America due to his proficiency in those languages being a Mexican-American and traveled to 17 countries and covered news globally. When he was in Los Angeles and announced his retirement, he received a letter from Ronald Reagan dated December 15, 1994, congratulating him on his retirement. He feels it was rare for a newsperson other than one stationed in Washington to receive correspondence from the president. He had four pictures in the show in Hague.
