Ms. Lerma is trained in Spanish immersion, horizontal gaze nystagmus and standard field sobriety testing for law enforcement. She audited a phlebotomy course for law enforcement and undertook drug impairment and drug recognition expert training. Ms. Lerma is also trained in public procurement as well as road safety assessment and is on staff with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. She is the statewide program coordinator for ‘La Protectora’ where she oversees traffic safety education for Hispanics, which includes developing approaches to traffic safety and bilingual education, raising awareness to promote safety measures, and analyzing suggested strategies to reduce fatalities and serious injuries within the Hispanic community of Arizona. Ms. Lerma also currently works as a child safety seat technician, general instructor, and public information officer. She previously spent six years with the Highway Patrol Bureau stationed in Pima County and was an investigator with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau for Southern Arizona for five years.
