He became involved in his profession because of his prior experience in statistical consulting and the suggestions he received from his former professors.
Extended Bio Profile:
Dr. Oster held faculty positions at three medical schools, served as a consultant to three contract research organizations and worked for the federal government. He authored and co-authored numerous scientific and statistical manuscripts and articles and served as a grant reviewer for the Cancer Biomarkers Study Section, the Basic Mechanisms of Cancer Therapeutics Study Section and the Clinical Oncology Study Section at the National Institutes of Health, the Consortial Center for Chiropractic Research and the Centers for Disease Control Prevention Research Centers. He taught statistics courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and served as a statistician on 25 dissertation and thesis committees. His statistical research interests include the design and analysis of clinical trials, categorical data analysis, nonparametric statistical methods, longitudinal data analysis, statistical methods in epidemiology and modern statistical computing methods. He is also known for his work on evaluating the implementation and performance of categorical data analysis methods and exact procedures in statistical software packages.
