She attributes her career success to her passion for her work and her belief in the importance of music in society. She became involved in music education through her love of music and because she was inspired to teach by one of her high school educators. The most gratifying aspects of her career include receiving return visits from former students and winning the Mr. Holland's Opus National Music Education Award. She received the award at Carnegie Hall. The award was presented by Richard Dreyfus. It validated her strengths and talent to teach music. She was never a confident person but this helped her believe in herself and her teaching skills.
