He holds the rank of Captain in the New York Guard and, in July 2007, was promoted to Commander of the 1102 Forward Medical Support Detachment. He hosts his own cable television show called, 'Ask Dr. Tommy O', a health education show in New York. He and his colleagues established a triage center on 9/11/01 for 9-11 survivors at Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, New York. He is a ringside boxing physician. His research has been published in several health-related articles and has a United States Patent for a medical instrument he developed.
