Expanded Biography:
Priscilla Arlene (Dalton) Lanier was born and raised in Chillicothe, OH. She graduated with a bachelor of science in education from Ohio University. She completed her master's degree and administration degree and other in principal and supervision from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. Ms. Lanier has a total of 34 years experience in teaching special needs children. She is presently employed with the Cincinnati Public Schools as an Intervention Specialist at Woodward Career Technical School. She has taught at Jacobs High School and Crest Hills Junior High. Prior to coming to Cincinnati Public Schools, Priscilla has taught for 12 years for the Hamilton County board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disorders at Dyer and Breyer school and Beckman School Center. She has taught one year in Douglas, GA. She is also an adjunct faculty member at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College since the early fall of 2002. She works for the Humanities and Science Department under the Early Childhood Care and Education Associate of Applied Science degree program. She has taught a variety of courses of topics including preschool, special needs children, early literacy I in the classroom environment, early literacy II, managing and supporting literacy, curriculum, design and technology and topic in special education. She is also an instructor at Ohio State University. There, she teaches Ohio's Pre-K/K State Institutes for Reading Instruction program. She is divorced and has two sons. Shawn is a computer engineer with Roche Diagnostics Corporation in Indianapolis and Shannon is a co-author alongside Jane Feldman of the critically acclaimed book 'Jefferson's Children, A Story of One American Family'. Shannon is currently the producer for the television show 'Our World' with Black Enterprise and Black Enterprise Business Report in New York City. Ms Priscilla Lanier is a direct descendant of Thomas Jefferson and his slave, Sally Hemings. Ms. Lanier and her son, Shannon have spoken at various colleges, schools and organizations throughout the country about their lineage and their rich family history.
