Peter Gulotta, Senior Systems Architect, graduated from Drexel University in 1980, with a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science. During his subsequent 26-year career in the computer industry, Peter has worked as a systems and network manager for a major aerospace manufacturer and as a software quality assurance engineer for a computer manufacturer. Peter has spent most of his career, however, working in the Professional Services Organization for Hewlett-Packard. There, he spent more than 10 years supporting and consulting on the HP-UX product line. More recently, Peter worked as a Systems Architect for a major pharmaceutical firm. Then, after joining North American Performance Group, Inc. in 1998, Peter delivered consulting in the areas of high availability, recovery and archiving, systems performance and systems administration. While his experience centers primarily on HP-UX, he does have some exposure to Solaris, AIX and SCO. In 2000, Peter joined AlphaNet Solutions as the UNIX Team Leader. His responsibilities included building a new UNIX practice and delivering consulting services in the areas of high availability and performance management. Most recently, Peter was a Senior Consultant with Melillo Consulting. There, he continued to deliver high quality consulting in the areas of high availability design, implementation and troubleshooting, performance management and tuning, recovery strategy design and implementation and general systems design and implementation in a distributed UNIX environment. Peter also supported the Melillo sales staff in their efforts, as well as aided in the proposal generation process for many large engagements. Now, Peter has started his own consulting firm under the name Bobcat Consulting, LLC where he continues to be dedicated to the delivery of the highest quality consulting service and support. During his career, Peter has developed specific skills in the areas of UNIX performance management and tuning, high availability design and recovery strategies, as well as skills in overall distributed client-server systems management. He has specific expertise with the OpenView suite of tools in the area of systems and performance management. Peter has developed numerous policy and procedure documents currently in use in data centers throughout the United States. Through training, his years of experience and his extensive reading, Peter has acquired an intimate knowledge of the internals of HP-UX, the performance collection and analysis subsystem of HP-UX. the LVM subsystem of HP-UX, and ServiceGuard, the high availability software package from Hewlett-Packard. He also has a working knowledge of client-server networking
protocols. including TCP/IP, and the related network implementation and management issues. Peter has put this knowledge to good use by playing an instrumental role as a technical lead in numerous system implementations. many
in a SAP environment. Peter has also developed a solid understanding of the interrelationships between Oracle's database software and the UNIX operating system, specifically HP-UX. Much of his expertise in systems management has been applied in Oracle environments. Peter has passed much of his accumulated knowledge on to both end-user clients and other consultants through the many
classes he has developed and taught, and the white papers he authored.
