Dr. Lohman-Hawk's caring attitude, genuine empathy and trustworthiness that she shows towards the students, faculty and staff as well as her ability to tackle new challenges are what separates her from her peers.
What has been the most outstanding thing you have done thus far in your career?:
Dr. Lohman-Hawk's greatest career accomplishment is her American Speech-Hearing Association Board recognized specialization in fluency disorder. This goal took three years of studying, working with a mentor and treating clients to achieve. She created a portfolio of her work and made and edited a two-hour video of her treatment techniques with clients. Her work was judged by a team of fluency specialists. After approval by the panel, she passed a two-hour comprehensive examination. She must continue to research, study and treat stuttering clients as well as teach and supervise student clinicians in order to maintain her specialization status with the Board.
Expanded Biography:
Dr. Lohman-Hawk was raised on an almond ranch in northern California, which is still managed by her 90 year-old father. She learned her hard work ethic from him. She is very dedicated to her work and maintains a very caring attitude toward her students, faculty and staff. She works long hours, knows how to organize and prioritize her work and finishes what she starts before retiring for the day.

Dr. Lohman-Hawk is not afraid of tackling new tasks and ideas and learning from her mistakes. Her motto is 'I tried.' She beleives that individuals cannot be successful unless they are motived to push tehmsleves and try new things. As someone who gets bored easily and continually strives to challnege herself, she is never comfortalbe doing the same thing day after day.

While working as a secretary in the rehabilitation department of a local hospital, she reliazed that she could do better things with her life. She returned to school for six years while she was a single parent in her 30's and obtained her Master's degree in speech-language pathology. After putting her daughter through college, she returned to school a second time and earned her Doctorate. Her daughter is now a financial analyst at the same hospital where she started out as a secretary. Dr. Lohman-Hawk knows that children emulate their parents' behavior and values and she is happy that she was a good role model for her daughter. She also tries to be a good role model for her students and grandchildren.

She became involved in her profession after gaining first-hand knowledge of the profession by working with physical, occupational and speech therapists. She had initially worked as a secretary for the rehabilitation department of the hospital and decided that her skills were better aligned with speech therapy.
