Expanded Biography:
Ms. Cardillo has embraced challenges and broadened her skills with diversity which constantly confronts her abilities in an ever-changing environment. She has achieved the basic nursing skills applicable to the geriatric patient. Her experiences have taught her that age alone does not make individuals less productive members of society. Her perspective of aging throughout generations should be respected for their maturity and wealth of knowledge gleaned from experiences. As a patient advocate from the perspective of a perioperative nurse, she is able to recognize the patients' and families' need for information and assistance in coping with the surgical experience. In doing so, a perioperative nurse develops a plan of care through the use of the nursing process. The application of the nursing process is a systematic approach to the nursing practice using problem solving techniques. The Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses has identified a Perioperative Patient Focused Model which consists of nursing diagnosis, nursing interventions and patient outcomes. As a part of The Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses, continuing commitment in providing care to surgical patients, statements of competency for perioperative nursing have been established. The Association believes that validity competency is a necessary outgrowth of its beliefs about nursing and patient care. As a result, The Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses incorporated Perioperative Nursing Data Set into these competency statements. The Perioperative Nursing Data Set offers the nurses the opportunity to verify their professional knowledge and skills, demonstrate their competency in practice and validate their contribution to patient outcomes. In addition to expanding her nursing career, she has remained a patient advocate by incorporating her nursing education into the role of the legal nurse consultant acting as a liaison between two independent fields, law and nursing. Each has established standards of practice, scope of practice defining parameters of professionalism, code of ethics, office advice, guidance and information to those who seek encouragement. Like the perioperative nurse, the nursing process is applicable to the legal nurse consultant. The purpose of using the nursing process is to provide the legal nurse consultant with a framework or consistent problem-solving approach for meeting the needs of the particular case, client , task or role. In conclusion, she has learned both personally and professionally that it's important to keep a positive attitude, remain confident in making selections and faith in a successful outcome.
