She attributes her success to determination, courage and being goal oriented.
How Did They Get Involved In Profession:
Ms. Berkompas became involved in her profession because she was encouraged to pursue education over nursing after high school.
Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Berkompas taught elementary education for five years (1969-1974) as well as teaching grades one through six in a one-room schoolhouse for eight years (1977-1986). She spent fourteen years as a teacher and academic vocational principal for male prisons in the Michigan Department of Corrections. She served as the Superintendent for Rudyard area schools for five years. She taught social studies, science and English in adult education while teaching piano. She is currently an adjunct professor at Ferris State University teaching methods classes to undergraduates.
