What do you feel separates you from the rest of the professionals in your industry?:
I feel that when you talk to any seasoned nurse working in the rural area, you get a very unique picture of what it means to be a nurse. They have a very comprehensive toolbox of knowledge and skills to be used in a wide variety of situations, very much like the family practice physician. Some of the knowledge and skill is lost in our specialized society.
What has been the most outstanding thing you have done thus far in your career?:
There have been several things that have helped this feeling of achievement. They include the many times that I have taught child birth classes. I get a great feeling of accomplishment when I see those young families start that very special journey in becoming a family. I also take pride in my work in critical incident stress management and helping volunteer EMS workers.
Expanded Biography:
As a member of the Minnesota Nurses Association, I have been elected to the Commission on Nursing Practice. I have been appointed to the Bylaw Committee and Ethics Committee and continue to serve on the Healthcare Reform Steering Committee. These activities keep me informed and help to educate and inform other nurses about correct trends and current issues. As a parish nurse on my church's district committee, I am helping form policies and guidelines as to how we, as a group, are able to shape the practice in a community setting.
