She attributes her personal and professional success to her optimism. She became involved in the profession because she felt it was her calling. The most gratifying aspect of her career is helping her patients.
In nursing, I found a home. Graduating from Ocean County Community College, Toms River, NJ in 1973 provided me the opportunity to immerse myself in medical-surgical nursing. I received my BSN in 1984 from the University of Miami, Coral Gables FL, graduating Cum Laude.

1978 saw the birth of non-invasive technology. This technology provided for the detection of vascular disease; using newly developed instruments. I helped establish in Miami, Fl the third vascular laboratory. Since that time, I have only worked in this field, becoming a Vascular Technologist in 1986, Certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. My employment continued at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Hanover, NH, and for the past 18 years continuing on at York University School of Medicine, Department of Vascular Surgery.

The most satisfying aspect of this work is providing a calming presence to the patient, as we explore the possibility of diagnosing vascular disease. This time also affords an excellent teaching opportunity for the patient's education.

In the community that I serve, alongside the surgeons for whom I work, I have been able to be of service to all socio-economic groups -- giving the absolute best care possible, providing healthcare alongside thoughtfulness and kindness. For this reason, my career in nursing has brought me so much joy. After retirement, I plan to look for opportunities to involve myself in healthcare issues for the poor and disadvantaged.
