Extended Bio Profile:
Dr. Ellis is an instructor for men's health courses and is the author of a manual on interpersonal skills in customer service. As a correctional professional, he is in charge of creating adult, socially responsible thinking in people who engage in childish, antisocial behavior. He has also witnessed the reverse process occur, such as witnessing colleagues who have been lured into childish, irresponsible behavior as a consequence of working with offenders. To stay encouraged in the difficult field of corrections, he relies on a motto he once heard spoken in a television interview by Hugh Weldon of the British Broadcasting Corporation, who was known for producing Monty Python's Flying Circus on television in the sixties. The Flying Circus was a risky enterprise for the times and the taste of the sixties. Mr. Weldon had stated, 'My job is not to prevent failure at all cost, but to give triumph a chance.' In corrections, Dr. Ellis has to come face-to-face with his costly failures. However, these failures make the triumphs even more exhilarating. When he hears a rapist or a murderer, say, 'Yes, I did it,' it is a beginning on the road to recovery from their crime.
He may not know if a soul is saved, but he has seen men who are emotionally dead become alive and begin their lives anew. He recalls a memorable quote from Gar Thomas of Ford Marketing Institute, 'Go in there Dave and pull those chestnuts out of the fire' to save the day when dealing with a difficult situation.
His greatest achievements include participating in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections Smoke Cessation Committee in 2003, which aimed to restrict tobacco in Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections facilities. This was a project that he had proposed in 1968 as a graduate student. Dr. Ellis also established Ellis Associates, a psychological consulting firm in 1978 and developed the Gentle Art of Vigorous Living workshop in 1983. This workshop eventually brought him in contact with Ford Marketing Institute, which conducted training on interpersonal skills in dealerships throughout the United States and Canada from 1986 to 1990.
Dr. Ellis' background as an entrepreneur in private practice, an industry consultant, ability to work with diverse audiences, flexible social style, high mirth factor and strength in a crisis are what separates him from his peers. He enjoys his work and attempts to help others see the irony of desperate circumstances in life.
Dr. Ellis has been published in several women's magazines regarding relationship issues.
