Expanded Biography:
Ms. Neighbors' life is rather ironic, being a successful interior decorator, traveling the Western states. She had many unanswered questions after her oldest daughter was born with an undiagnosed lethal chromosome defect. As one would imagine this was quite shocking for a young mother who needed to gain understanding of what was happening to this beautiful child. Genetics was in its infancy and the medical professionals left her puzzled, feeling afraid and alone. Determined to help other parents who might be experiencing the same types of trauma, She left her first career to start another. She went back to college with the goal in mind of becoming a medical social worker. She wanted to write and tell her story to others. Since the day she made her decision, she has never looked back. She has helped others in a variety of sectors which include teaching, writing, psychotherapy, management, program development, sitting on numerous agency boards and lots of community involvement. For her and who she is, she views each step as a milestone with so much work yet to be done. She does not measure her career success by her achievements. She measures success by the steps she's taken along the way, being honest with herself, not compromising in values and never losing sight of her goals. She has been invited to join a number of community agency boards over the years, not necessarily because of her success but because of her belief in the cause, while listening to new ideas, encouraging others when times are not the best, or perhaps the energy she has demonstrated. She is pleased she has had the opportunity to become an energetic board member or to sit on a variety of executive boards over the last twenty-nine years. She has become vigorously involved with fund raising projects over the years, for a number of agencies. She has been honored with numerous awards and letters of recognition over the course of her career. Each one is treasured and an exciting memory of a particular time in her career. She has been the director of social work for a large, world renowned hospital and taught at the same institution. She has published and plans to publish more work. he is currently producing relaxation Cd's and will continue working in the field of mental health therapy. She is a leader and enjoy the challenge of speaking at conferences, helping others and one might say she looks for new innovative ways to enhance her career in order to lend a helping hand as a licensed clinical social worker.
