How would you like to be remembered by your peers?:
I would like to be thought of as someone who listened, who shared, and who enjoyed the time spent with them. I have always had an "open door" policy. My students know they can walk through the door either for help or to vent and be listened to. I think my colleagues feel the same way. I feel strongly that teachers must enhance the profession as well as foster lifelong learners.
If you could solve one problem in the world today, what would it be?:
I would like to make every child feel loved and wanted. I have seen so many kids blossom with just a little encouragement. I am amazed by the resiliency of the human spirit and the strides that can come with a bit of attention.
If you could have lunch with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?:
My dad. My dad was a civil engineer who made the Navy his career. We moved every other year as his postings changed, so we spent many summers traveling across the country. He died when I was 12; we were stationed in San Francisco at the time. I would like him to know that still I follow the lessons he taught me when I was little. I would like him to meet my wonderful family and see his grandchildren. I would like to show him that I turned out okay.
