Ashley Bonheur of Island Park, NY Honored by Randy Narod, President of Cambridge Who's Who and Owner of Island Park’s Da Vinci’s Restaurant, as Recipient of the Cambridge Who's Who Future Leaders Award

Uniondale, NY, September 7, 2007—Randy Narod, president of Cambridge Who's Who, and owner of Da Vinci’s Restaurant in Island Park, is pleased to announce that Ashley Bonheur of Island Park is the recipient of a Cambridge Who's Who Future Leaders Award, which includes a $1,000 scholarship. Bonheur received the award at the senior awards assembly at West Hempstead High School, from which she graduated in 2007.

Randy Narod says, "Cambridge Who's Who members are distinguished leaders in business, entrepreneurship and the professions, so it’s fitting that Cambridge Who's Who honors high school seniors who promise to become leaders of their generation.";

Cambridge Who's Who called for essays from seniors at West Hempstead High School, as well as several other high schools on Long Island, where Cambridge Who's Who is headquartered. Cambridge asked students to describe attributes of leaders, demonstrate their leadership qualities and identify an individual who epitomizes leadership.

In her essay, Bonheur quotes Rosalynn Carter as saying, “A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go but ought to be.” Bonheur goes on to cite two students who were an inspiration to her in becoming a leader at West Hempstead High School and throughout her community.

Randy Narod observes, “In addition to being a high-achieving student, Ashley is a real leader. She has been president of the local chapter of S.A.D.D., vice president of Athletes Helping Athletes and treasurer of the Key Club. She was also a softball team captain and captain of the West Hempstead Relay for Life, a fundraising walk benefiting the American Cancer Society.”

Narod says, “Ashley clearly has leadership attributes and promises to accomplish great things in her career. Cambridge Who's Who is pleased to contribute to her success with the Future Leaders Scholarship.”

Rachael Goldberg Receives Cambridge Who's Who Future Leaders Award from Randy Narod, President of Cambridge Who's Who and Owner of Long Beach Bagel Café

Uniondale, NY, August 25, 2007—Randy Narod, president of Cambridge Who's Who among Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs and owner of Long Beach Bagel Café, is pleased to announce that Rachael Goldberg of Long Beach, NY is the recipient of a Cambridge Who's Who Future Leaders Award, including a $1,000 scholarship.

Cambridge Who's Who called for essays at Long Beach High School and other high schools on Long Island, where Cambridge Who's Who is headquartered. Cambridge asked students to describe leadership attributes, demonstrate their leadership qualities and identify an individual who epitomizes leadership.

The Cambridge Who's Who Scholarship Committee selected Goldberg’s essay, in which she says, “Anyone is capable of being a leader. What sets real leaders apart is the willingness to put yourself out there.” Goldberg plans a career as a spokesperson or lobbyist for a genetic research facility or special needs advocacy. She says, “My mission is to promote genetic research and improve the welfare of the mentally ill.”

As Goldberg points out, “I’m not just dreaming—I’ve already taken actions as a leader. I’ve been part of my high school’s Emerging Leaders Program, working to improve relations between students and the administration.” She also earned an AP Scholar Award and Model Congress speaking awards, signaling her capabilities as a spokesperson.

In accepting the Cambridge Who's Who Scholarship, Goldberg thanked Narod and said she is encouraged “that my efforts have brought me in the right direction.” Goldberg will attend the University of Miami, majoring in political science and psychology. She will minor in genetics, philosophy, ethics or creative writing, which shows her creativity in formulating a degree to help her accomplish her goals.

Randy Narod says, “Rachael has already shown she is a leader, and we believe she will accomplish great things. Cambridge Who's Who is pleased to support Rachael’s goals, and I look forward to welcoming Rachael as a full-fledged member of Cambridge Who's Who. Since we recognize leaders in business, entrepreneurship and the professions, it’s fitting that we recognize accomplished students like Rachael who will become their generation’s leaders.”

Jasmie Graham earned an honorable mention for her essay, in which she identifies Rosa Parks as the epitome of leadership. Jasmie writes, Parks “stood up (by sitting down) for what she believed in. She helped to start a movement that made a positive difference in the world.”

Randy Narod points out, “Jasmie plans to become an educator so that she can meet her goal of changing the lives of children for the better. She has an excellent start with her involvement in the Long Beach Martin Luther King Community Center Youth Council, where she helped plan activities for youth in the community. Jasmie is well on her way to becoming a leader of Cambridge Who's Who caliber.”

Randy Narod, Owner of Glen Cove Bagel Café and President of Cambridge Who's Who, Selects Austin Fender of Glen Cove for Cambridge Who's Who Future Leaders Award

Uniondale, N.Y., July xx, 2007— Randy Narod, president of Cambridge Who's Who among Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs and owner of Glen Cove Bagel Café, is pleased to announce that Austin Fender of Glen Cove, NY, has received a Cambridge Who's Who Future Leaders Award, which includes a $1,000 scholarship.

Randy Narod says, “The members of Cambridge Who's Who are distinguished leaders in business, entrepreneurship and the professions, so it’s fitting that Cambridge Who's Who honors high school seniors who promise to become their generation’s leaders.”

Cambridge Who's Who called for essays from seniors at Glen Cove High School as well as other high schools on Long Island, where Cambridge Who's Who is headquartered. Cambridge asked students to describe attributes of leaders, demonstrate their leadership qualities and identify an individual who epitomizes leadership.

Fender extols Martin Luther King’s leadership, and observes that leaders should be measured by the confidence they display in their followers rather than their own self-confidence. Fender says, “The mark of authentic leaders is that they spark a deep passion in others that causes them to become leaders.”

As captain of the Glen Cove wrestling team, Fender applied these principles in his own life. At first, the prospect of being the team’s leader seemed daunting. But Fender realized he was responsible for bringing a winning outlook to the team. He believes he succeeded, since he saw his teammates grow into leaders who can take his place when he goes on to college.

Fender plans to attend the University of Wisconsin in Madison. While he has not settled on a career path, he knows that whatever he does, if a leader is needed, he will be “completely ready and willing to accept the challenge.” Randy Narod says, “As an honorary member of Cambridge Who's Who among Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs, Austin will be featured in the honors edition of the Cambridge Who's Who Registry, where he will have access to a robust network of leaders in many fields.”

Michael Ding, who earned an honorable mention, makes the point that “Leaders are not only measured by their individual capabilities, but also defined by their enthusiasm, initiative and ability to win the support of others.”

Randy Narod says, “Michael aspires to be a leading researcher in a medical team. His many scientific awards tell me that he will succeed in that goal, and that he will soon deserve a place among the thousands of medical professionals in Cambridge Who's Who."

Randy Narod, Owner of Oceanside Bagel Café and President of Cambridge Who's Who, Honors Jennifer Schindler with the Cambridge Who's Who Future Leaders Award

Uniondale, NY, July xx, 2007—Randy Narod, president of Cambridge Who's Who among Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs and the owner of Oceanside Bagel Café, is pleased to announce that Jennifer Schindler of Oceanside, NY is the recipient of the Cambridge Who's Who Future Leaders Award, which includes a $1,000 scholarship.

Randy Narod says, "The members of Cambridge Who's Who are distinguished leaders in business, entrepreneurship and the professions, so it’s fitting that Cambridge Who's Who honors high school seniors who promise to become leaders of their generation.”

Cambridge Who's Who called for essays from seniors at Oceanside High School, as well as several other high schools on Long Island, where Cambridge Who's Who is headquartered. Cambridge asked students to describe attributes of leaders, demonstrate their leadership qualities and identify an individual who epitomizes leadership.

Schindler’s essay stood out to the Cambridge Who's Who Scholarship Committee. Schindler, citing Jane Addams as a leader she admires, says, “A leader possesses big dreams and doesn’t fear turning them into a reality." Addams, the founder of Hull House, “gave up a life of luxury and set out to educate, feed and clothe the homeless.” As Schindler says, Addams’ “work, her dream and her heart touched hundreds of lives.”

A National Honor Society member who plays the flute and is a vocal soloist, Schindler’s leadership qualities are evident in her activities. Her intended career in public health has already resulted in contributions such as her leadership role as secretary of Students Against Destructive Decisions, where she participated with other Oceanside High School students in sending out a “Contract for Life” to encourage students and parents to consider the consequences of driving under the influence. She has also received awards for her scientific research and interned at a scientific research lab at Columbia University.

Narod says, “Jennifer clearly has leadership attributes and promises to accomplish great things in public health. Cambridge Who's Who is pleased to support Jennifer’s dreams with the Future Leaders Scholarship.”

Aaron Wilson of Hempstead, N.Y. Receives the Cambridge Who's Who Future Leaders Award

Uniondale, N.Y., July 7, 2007—Randy Narod, president of Cambridge Who's Who among Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs is pleased to announce that Aaron Wilson of Hempstead, N.Y. is the recipient of a Cambridge Who's Who Future Leaders Award, which includes a $1,000 scholarship.

Randy Narod says, ";The 200,000 members of Cambridge Who's Who have demonstrated leadership and achievement in their industry and occupation, so it is fitting that Cambridge would honor high school seniors who show promise as leaders of their generation.”

Cambridge Who's Who called for essays from seniors at Uniondale High School as well as other high schools on Long Island, where Cambridge Who's Who is headquartered. Cambridge asked students to describe attributes of leaders, demonstrate their leadership qualities and identify an individual who epitomizes leadership.

While many student essays were impressive, Wilson’s stood out to the Cambridge Who's Who Scholarship Committee. Wilson cites Oprah Winfrey’s charitable acts as evidence that “people from humble beginnings can become leaders.” He observes, “To become a leader one must be persistent, honest, intelligent and unselfish. One must be able to set their well-being to the side and be strictly concerned with his or her cause.”

Narod points out that Wilson himself displays leadership qualities. Narod says, “Among other activities, he chaired the Future Business Leaders of America fundraising committee and served as vice president of the Literary Arts Club. An accomplished cellist and section leader in the school orchestra, who also composes music, he has performed with the New York Virtuosi Chamber Symphony. A National Honor Society member, he served as a peer tutor in Spanish, the social sciences and mathematics.”

Wilson, named to Who's Who among American High School Students, says his career goal is to become a marketing executive. As an honorary member of Cambridge Who's Who among Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs, he will be featured in the honors edition of the Cambridge Who's Who Registry and will have access to a robust network of Cambridge business professionals.

As Wilson says, “Leaders are influential people who stand out in a crowd.” Narod says, “By that definition, Aaron Wilson is indeed a fitting recipient of the Cambridge Who's Who Future Leaders Award.”

E. Dorrit Hoffleit, Ph.D. Remembered by Cambridge Who's Who for Her Contributions to the Field of Astronomy

NEW YORK-April 19, 2007 - E. Dorrit Hoffleit, Ph.D. (March 12, 1907 - April 9, 2007) was a world-renowned astronomer, and an expert on variable stars, astrometry, and the history of astronomy. She wrote The Bright Star Catalogue, a compendium of information on the 9,110 brightest stars in the sky. Now in its fifth revision, her work on the catalogue remains a valuable reference to astronomers. She also co-authored The General Catalogue of Trigonometric Stellar Parallaxes, which contains precise distance measurements to 8,112 stars. In 1988, minor planet 3416 was named "Dorrit" in her honor.

E. Dorrit Hoffleit began her astronomical career in 1929 as a research assistant at Harvard University's Observatory and soon became an expert at spectroscopically determining the absolute brightness of stars. In 1943, she joined the Ballistic Research Lab at Aberdeen Proving Ground where she computed missile trajectories. In 1956, after 25 years at Harvard, Dr. Hoffleit went to Yale to run its star cataloging program. She was also director of the Maria Mitchell Observatory, Nantucket, from 1957-1978. Under her mentorship, 11 women in the observatory's summer research program went on to earn doctorate degrees in astronomy, and collectively they discovered over 1,000 new variable stars.

During her career, Hoffleit wrote hundreds of articles on astronomy. In 1988, she was awarded the George Van Biesbroeck Prize for a lifetime of service to astronomy. In 1993, she was the recipient of the Annenberg Award for Science Education. In 1998, she was inducted into the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame.

E. Dorrit Hoffleit received her D.Sc. from Central Connecticut State University (1998); D.Sc., from Smith College (1984); Ph.D. in astronomy from Radcliffe College (1938) and her bachelor of arts in mathematics, cum laude, from Radcliffe College (1928).

Cambridge Who's Who Recognizes Maria Calcagni for Efforts to Raise Autism Awareness

Autism Speaks Volunteer Leader Works to Resolve Issues

Uniondale, NY, February 12, 2007 – Cambridge Who's Who honors its member Maria Calcagni, a volunteer leader for Autism Speaks, for her efforts to raise awareness about autism.

Calcagni appeared on ABC’s The View on January 29, 2007, with her husband and daughter. That day’s telecast was devoted to autism, which affects 1 of every 150 children, with boys affected more than girls by a 4-to-1 ratio. A neuro-developmental disorder, autism results in impaired verbal and behavioral functions. Its only treatment is specialized education that trains the brain to create neural pathways that do not develop on their own in people with autism. However, educational entitlements end at age 21, and many people with autism are forced to discontinue education and therefore lose the independence gained through treatment. Calcagni’s segment on The View focused on the challenges faced by people with autism who turn 21 and therefore lose access to federally funded educational programs.

Last year, the autism community had two significant legislative victories. The first was the enactment of the Combating Autism Act, which authorizes nearly $1 billion over five years to combat autism through research, screening, early detection and early intervention. The second was the $7.5 million Congress included in the FY 2007 Defense Appropriations bill for autism research to benefit affected military families and others.

In 2007, one of Autism Speaks' legislative goals is to work with Congress to develop and secure passage of a law to improve access to affordable autism treatment and services. As Calcagni says, “There is a critical lack of government-funded autism-specific support services, which are essential if adults with autism are to lead full, safe and dignified lives.”

For more information about autism, visit www.autismspeaks.org.

Cambridge Who's Who Named “King” Sponsor of Toys of Hope’s Oheka Castle Holiday Party

Uniondale, NY December 14, 2006—Cambridge Who's Who, a leading global networking organization for executives and professionals, has been named “King” sponsor of Toys of Hope’s Oheka Castle Holiday Party.

Toys of Hope’s mission is to provide toys, books, clothing, and essential household items to needy and homeless children and their families so that they can become more self-sufficient and improve their children's lives. Randy Narod, President of Cambridge Who's Who, says, "Cambridge Who's Who feels privileged to support Toys of Hope. One reason we’re sponsoring this event is that Toys of Hope is run entirely by volunteers, including its President, Melissa Doktofsky, and its Vice President, Tina Alfano, a Cambridge Who's Who employee. We are also impressed that 100% of all financial and in-kind contributions goes to the children and their families.”

In addition to Cambridge Who's Who donating funds to sponsor the Oheka Party, Randy Narod has personally contributed a toy for each of the 350 children expected to attend. The toys were purchased at My Toy Store in Albertson, NY, and Michael Robinson, the store’s proprietor, extended a discount to contribute to the effort.

The 200 Cambridge Who's Who employees are conducting a Toys of Hope drive, gathering a huge collection of items for needy and homeless children and families. As Narod says, “If we can bring joy to these children, we’ve done something to make Long Island a better place to live.”
